Zion National Park

We offer the only scenic jeep tours available into the backcountry of Zion National Park, one of the most stunning collections of natural rock formations on earth. A showcase of colorful sandstone canyons and forested plateaus, Zion National Park is one of Utah’s most visited tourist attractions, hosting an average of 2.5 million visitors every year. Named by early Mormon settlers, Zion is an ancient Hebrew word meaning “sanctuary” or “place of refuge.” It is Utah’s first national park, receiving the designation in 1919. Located in southwestern Utah (43 miles east of St. George), Zion preserves 229 square miles of breathtaking scenery.

Over millions of years, the Virgin River carved a spectacular gorge where canyon walls tower 2,000 to 3,000 feet above the valley floor. This gorge, Zion Canyon, is the most popular part of the park and home to numerous gigantic rock formations, including the Court of the Patriarchs, Angel’s Landing, and the Great White Throne, its most famous landmark. Zion National Park also includes the Kolob Canyons section, located in the park’s northwest corner and easily accessible by Interstate 15. It is home to towering red rock monoliths and Kolob Arch, one of the largest natural arches on earth.

Zion National Park boasts a diverse array of flora and fauna as elevations range from 3,800 feet to almost 9,000 feet. Zion is home to rare and threatened species such as the Virgin spinedace (a fish), the Zion snail, and the peregrine falcon. Park visitors most often encounter wildlife such as deer, wild turkeys, squirrels, chipmunks, and lizards. Zion holds the distinction of being one of the only national parks with a mandatory shuttle system. During the peak season, usually from early April to late October, shuttle buses are the only way visitors may enter Zion Canyon. The transportation system has restored peace and tranquility to the canyon and has become a model for other national parks seeking to reduce traffic congestion.
